Do you think the Uncle Remus/Brer Rabbit stories are rascist and/or unfit for children?

Actually, the Uncle Remus stories were written by my own relation six generations back. The Uncle Remus stories were his favorite stories told to him by an old slave he and other kids called Uncle Remus. When he grew up he wrote and published those beloved stories in the vernacular in which they had been related to him.
So no, I don't believe they were racist as the original teller of the stories was a slave himself.

I loved those when I was a kid and I didn't turn out to be racist, I think it is okay. You don't realize the racist elements in the story/movie until you are older and no longer look at anything the same way.

Lots of literature in American talks of dark subjects.

the song Jimmy Crack Corn is about slavery. If we remove everything that we don't agree with from the library, there might not be to much left on the shelf.
