I went out to see what I can get my dad for xmas and I saw a mug and a hat that has the yankees logo on it. He likes them so I thought about to give him that?

Sounds good but you say he likes them, its a low degree of affection for an object. Passionately crazy for the same would have made your choice of present full-proof. Might want to think over it, if nothing comes to mind or nothing appeals, sounds decent, the current one.

Forget the logo.
Does he wear hats, and drink from mugs?
If yes, perfect!
