Does anybody feel Judas got the worse deal in history?

God sent his son, Jesus, to die for our sins. The past and the future ones, if we commit them or not:

"God's Son had to become a human being so that he could suffer and die in our place to pay the ransom. That is the meaning of Christmas. Hebrews 2:14 puts it like this, "Since the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same nature that through death he might destroy him who has the power of death." In other words, the reason Christ took on human flesh was so that he could die and in dying pay a ransom and free us from the power of death. "

God sent his son to save us from himself (I mean from divine condemnation, the wrath of God):

"John 3:17-18, "For God sent not the Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved. He who believes in him is not condemned, but he who does not believe is condemned already."

So, if it was all already planned the whole thing. Jesus had to come and suffer and die ... it looks like Judas was set up from the beginning as well.
Somebody had to be the traitor after all! Why or why not Judas? Somebody had to be the one carrying the eternal shame of traitor and being lynched and burnt in fury... without a traitor, the whole story would be off!

Think about it. While all the other apostles were chosen to spread the word and be loved, Judas was picked to be the scapegoat. Certainly that man named Judas was not the only one in the whole land capable of betrayal, but he got the golden ticket to be the one everybody would know as traitor forever.

I kind of pity him. Maybe he is not what everybody is set to think and he did in fact choose the role? Without Judas there would be no salvation, so maybe Jesus and Judas had a secret arrangement? Jesus called Judas on the corner and explained him the whole deal and Judas took upon him to sacrifice his name and memory for centuries so the outcome would be what we know of today? He may have thought that in face of Jesus sacrifice, his would not be so bad? And poor Judas set off to fulfill his role as the man who betrayed Jesus, because somebody had to do it.

If the history called for a traitor from the start, I think he got the worst deal among the apostles.

ILustKarl, you're just another silly atheist that cannot reconcile the following things... god has a plan (fate or destiny) and we all have free will. Judas had free will, and he chose to betray Jesus. God knew he would do this, since he is omniscient and knows everything and he has a plan. To a logical person it sounds like these statements are contradicting one another. The answer is to let go of logic and have faith. Pray harder.

So, in laymans terms, Judas is Professor Snape, and Jesus is Dumbledore.

No, I just can't see it.

Judas didn't betray Jesus.. When the Bible was translated from Greek, the word 'paradidomi' was translated as 'betray' when it really reads more like 'deliver' or 'surrender'..

Well, I liked the way Scorsese handled this problem in, "The Last Temptation of Christ" For those who don't know, there is a very emotional scene between Jesus & Judas. Jesus essentially tells Judas that he is the most trusted and true of his disciples, which is why Jesus asks the biggest sacrifice (that of turning traitor) from him.

I think this is kinda hilarious.
And you're thinking is pretty logical. Haven't thought of it myself, but yeah...it makes sense lol.

We must have different Bible versions because in the one I own Judas had a free will. I dont recall the Romans putting a gun to his head (figuratively speaking) and saying "You have to betray Jesus or we kill you"

If there was no Judas (aka a betrayer), there would have been no Jesus as we know him.

The Bible does not say anywhere that Judas was chosen for this task, God knew Judas before he was born, He knew what Judas would do and it became part of His plan. Judas is to blame for what Judas did, no one else....

Judas wasn't "picked", he simply made a lousey choice as most all of us have except that his is known worldwide.

Judas KNEW Jesus was God's son. He was a disciple who was present for many, many miracles that proved beyond a doubt that God not only exists, but is capable of the greatest love and compassion that he so badly wants to share with us. He threw God's love and his gifts away by betraying the living God and you feel bad for him?! Judas’s raw deal was of his own doing. I feel bad for Jesus seeing as how he had to suffer for YOUR sins! I bet you feel bad for Satan to.

Wait a minute, how did Judas die again? Did he burst open to cause the blood fields, or did he hang himself?

Either Matthew 27:5 or
Acts 1:18

The Judas character was used by the new Christian movement to distance themselves from the Jews by using the Jews as scapegoats for the death of Jesus. He was fictional. He was a "plot device".

Just another part of the bible that doesn't make any kind of sense.
Like the concept of original sin. What, all human beings ever born have inherited sin because Eve ate an apple? Are you serious? Must have been some ******* apple!
Or the fact that Jesus died, which saves all of our souls, somehow? What? How the **** can that actually work?
Also- Did you know that there is a "Gospel of Judas"?

Judas had free will just as all of us do. God just knew what choice he was going to make. If it hadn't been that bad choice, it would have been another. Judas also had the same opportunity to repent for his mistake and change his heart and receive God's forgiveness .... just like we all do. It's a trajedy that he did not believe in God or love Him enough to put his faith in His mercy.
