Yes, when you're not feeling good it's hard. But for me it actually changes my mood to start smiling. We all do things everyday we don't want to (like me this morning - DID NOT WANT TO MOVE OUT OF THAT BED!!! but I did it.)

It's a strain, that's true but the reward of a smile is that you're alive and you get the smile returned more often than not.

Yes, and I understand where your coming from. Here's what I try to do... with that happy face I try to add humor or something that genuinely makes you happy. Observe something on the way to work, play a small prank on a coworker, flirt a little, imagine everybody in the lineup naked or as little kids or with funny shoes, be creative, make an EP friend you can do something goofy with every day like screwing around with emoticons. It doesn't always work, but what the heck, it's worth trying.

This is genuine, just for you :)

Only when I am dealing with a rude person and I can't tell them what I really think of their behavior.

it is too exhausting to fake it. i love the look on peopls face's when they ask
"how are you today?" and i reply Middlin, could be better, could be worst
you will be amazed at the storys that come forth
most people laugh at the honesty and those that don't i tell don't ask if you don'/t really want to know the truth.
    You sound like your tired?

I only smile when I'm happy ... and that's most of the time.

It's OK not to be smiling all the time. But if you're unhappy all the time and forcing yourself to have to smile .. there's something wrong.

No one expects you to be happy all the time ... but it's how you deal with your sadness that matters.

yes. i felt like that earlier today, but i let people know how i felt by talking about it. you dont have to hide your true feelings, its better to let them know how you feel. bottling never ever works.
