Hi!
Endometriosis is a very disturbing disease.
As a doctor, I have studied it, but I'm not a specialist.
Anyway, it is the ocurrence of endometrium (the most superficial tissue inside the uterus, the one that "dies" and sheds during menses) in other that the normal location, in the falopian tubes (tube conecting uterus to ovary), ovary, other locations in pelvic cavity. It can be found uncommonly in caesarian-section scars, other surgery scars, bladder, bowel, intestines, colon, appendix, and rectum. In extremely rare cases, endometriosis has been found inside the vagina, inside the bladder, on the skin, even in the lung, spine, and brain.
It usually manifests as pain in various situations and can be severe and debilitating. It can also alter the amount or duration of menstruation, cause diarrhoea or constipation or other symptoms according to the organs affected.
One common complication is infertility, which sometimes can be reversed by means of specialized medical treatment or, in severe cases, surgical procedure. Studies indicate that women with minimal–mild endometriosis take longer to conceive (become pregnant) and are less likely to conceive than women in general. It also appears that the more severe the woman’s endometriosis, the more likely it is that she will have difficulty becoming pregnant. Nevertheless, many women with endometriosis still become pregnant without difficulty, and most become pregnant eventually.

Endometriosis is rarely curable. No treatment cures effectivelly, except in the rare cases when surgical removal of ectopic (out of place) endometrium is possible (when there are few spots or only located on genital system if hysterectomy - removal of uterus - is made).
Nevertheless there is effective treatment for many women, and the type of treatment depends on her symptoms, her age, and her fertility wishes.

- Analgesics (painkillers)
- Hormonal therapy (including contraceptive pill, IUD and others)
- Surgery
- Specific dietary plan

The choice for the treatment should be made after careful medical interview, diagnostic exams and assessment of the degree of severity.

About alternative medicines, anything that you might take should be reported to your doctor, as some chemicals in traditional herbs and mixtures may interfere with medical treatment, causing toxicity or inhibiting its action. Acupunture, massage, qi gong and other non-chemical treatment can be used.

As such, you should consult a specialist to help you deal with the disease. The relief may not be immediate, but with time results are likely to appear.

I hope I helped.

I doubt if a physician would post on site. My sister has endo and it caused her to be sterile. She lost her opportunity to have kids being a career woman and now she is in her 50's and it's her one regret. You'd do better to speak with a gyn about this problem.

There is no cure for endometriosis. The tissue growth can be suppressed through the use of hormones (usually the pill), or can sometimes be removed surgically depending on where it is, but that's about it at this point (at least in the US). Comprehensive2 is absolutely right; anyone with endo or who thinks she has endo should consult with an OB/GYN, preferably one who specializes in it.

There is no cure. You can have laser surgery, but it comes back. I have it and couldn't have kids because of it. My case is relatively mild though.

I had endometriosis. It was very powerful. I developed it at 18 years old after my first child and had it removed when I was 19. I have since given birth to three children. The best thing you can do is be informed and listen to your own body. I was put on pills, but felt they were going against my own body. I do take herbs and drink lots of teas. I am one who believes medical doctors have their place, but so do holistic doctors. You are your best help. Get educated and decide for yourself by listening to that inner voice what is the best course of action for yourself. Blessings.
