Does anyone know what to expect in this cancer situation?

Only - First of all, I'm so sorry for what you and your family are experiencing. I've been through more cancer experiences than I care to have.

Your mom's prognosis is not good as I'm sure you know. Hopefully, they can keep her pain under control and she will be present and aware you all are surrounding her with love.

If you are not already involved, get her set up with Hospice. They do an awesome job and will help EVERYONE go thru the experience as painless as possible.

im sorry for u,,the only thing u can do now is to make sure that she is not in pain,,i guess ur doctor will advice u about that,,u just b aound her try to make her feels better...im afraid nothing else could b done..

I have to be honest...I have had several people very close to me with cancer this is one of the hardest things you will ever have to deal with in life.Every person is different.The meds. effect people differently..so it is hard to give you the information you are looking for...all I can say is if you need to ever talk.. pm me....prays are with you and your family

Try to be strong for her and spend as much time with her if you can. For the both of you I suggest a change in diet as well, lots of meditation. Maybe clean the house a little bit, just make her feel comfortable. Ask her what you can get her to keep her mind occupied. Give her lots of TLC and give youself lots of TLC also.

None of us know what is the best because there is no good answer. Trust in God...he has reasons for all things that happen and we have to bear with it. No one know what is going to happen to us tomorrow. The Bible says he will give you peace...

Remember the simple things we all need. Warmth, shelter and the knowledge that there are people beside us who care. Our needs are very few when you come down to it. I'm sorry to hear that your mother is in this situation but if you can let her know that you are there to comfort her and that she feels secure in that knowledge, that will help. Help her to remain dignified and private as much as you can, this was very important to my mother when she was dying. The maintenance of identity and not forgetting that the patient is a human individual is crucial, as AP says.

I have just gone through the same thing with my father...and my heart aches for you...just spend as much time with her as you can and try to keep her as comfortable as possible and let her know your there for her and that you love her ...with all my father went through he tried to stay positive and that helps...Hospice is a good idea as the others have mentioned...and know that there are many who share your plight and we will send our best wishes and prayers for you and your mom!

There is some good and caring advice here. I strongly suggest anytime you do not understand or agree with something or a treatment or whatever it may be ASK. Never be afraid to ask your questions or voice your opinion. There are no stupid questions, and your thoughts,and concerns come out of love. They know your mom as the patient, I hate to say that being a nurse, but its true. You know her as the person, not the disease. You have had how many years with her, and they have known her for how long? I learned 16yrs ago when I went thru my best friend dying of cervical cancer, that I had a voice and I made it known. If I hadn't she would not have gotton what she wanted and needed. I found strength within myself I did not know I had. Yes I cried, alone and with her. We spent many hours just talking, then she would get tired and sleep, waking just to see if I was still there, seeing I was she would fall back to sleep. Be there as much as you can, reaffirm your love for her. But you also need to take of yourself--get some sleep when she sleeps, make sure you are eating it just as important for you as her. You also need to have some emotional support be it friend, spouse, even clergy can be a real comfort. So be gentle with yourself during this time. This last thought was a hard one to accept but once I understood, sometimes the best thing we can for someone we love is to let them go. To help them to see it is ok to let go. Help them understand they do not have to hold on for us, they have fought a long and hard battle and its ok to stop fighting. You will know when or if that time comes.
I will say a prayer for you and your mom, for comfort and healing and peace.

cURRENTLY MY SIS HAS BRAIN AND LUNG CANCER. Please, do not let them do anything to her brain should they find it there. They did that to my sister. She cant even go to the bathroom by herself cause she cant remember why she is standing up. Forgets her name. NOT worth it.

Im so sorry you are enduring this pain. Its tough. Decisions are tough.

We opted NOT to do anything and after a year, she is still here. No chemo.
Once Hospice got called in, no more hospital stays, no more xrays. Your in the dark. So its a tough decision.
I would love to know where the cancer is now. No answers.
