Having a soul mate is nothing but someone's interpretation of their relationship.
Relationships are about a commitment made to another.
In other words, if I was the last man on the planet and found the last woman on the other side of the planet, because of my commitment to her I would make it work.
I would care for her by providing for her needs. I would make an effort to spend time with her to see how she's doing. And I would make sure that I would give her more than five seconds of listening time per day! Now that's commitment!

When you find your soulmate you will no. There is something that just takes over your heart and soul. You will never put that person in a situation that will hurt them. You will do everything. In your power to procect them.

There is no such thing as should mates there are however people you are highly compatible with. Soul mates just makes the relationship failing alot harder.

I think that some husbands and wives are soul mates. They stay together through the ups and downs just to be there for one another. Sometimes one really wants to leave but cannot when she/he sees the pain that would cause the other spouse. This shows that she/he cares more about the spouse's soul/pain/joy more than her/his owns.
People who are not soul mates will leave/hurt the other person sometimes with no hesitant or effort at all.
At their worst, soul mate will NOT fight tooth and nail even after they decide on a divorce/separation.

who really cares? we all die alone anyway. filling our lives up with pointless pursuits and *soul mates* really doesn't mean a darn thing. we are born alone and we die alone. that's all there is to it.

Soul mates don't exist. You can meet people that are highly compatible and coincidentally available. But you'll never meet someone that warrants the term "soul mate".
