My family never cared or showed interest in what was important to me. But I didn't give up all hope even that. I used to have dreams, and I used to try to make them a reality. If I felt passionate about something, I wasn't always willing to just let the dream die away.

Definitely not. I do not look outside for approval. You'll never find it that way. I paint and if I like it that's all that matters. If someone else does that's up to them. The most accomplished artists were never appreciated in their time.

i like to sing, but my low self esteem makes me anxious to show anyone. the one person i try to show just seems uninterested.
once i worked very hard learning a song only to get a "oh that was cool dude" in a monotone way and tossed aside for a netflix que.

I'm sure this isn't much consolation, but the fact that you asked this question -- and that I found it via Google -- might be the positive we can take from it. It helped to see I'm not the only one that runs into this.
My answer is a profound YES. It baffles me when people on Facebook post pictures of food, or themselves posing in the bathroom mirror, and they get dozens of "like"s... meanwhile, I spend months building complex online projects and when I share them -- crickets.
It's almost as if people don't want to think anymore, and/or they don't WANT to acknowledge your talents because it's either something they're not personally interested in. They don't even try to see if they can appreciate the effort that went into something if there's no immediate benefit for them.
Last part of my already-too-long answer: to the OP, if you're referring to a piece of art that you created, send me a link to it and I'll share my thoughts. I may not be able to appreciate the work that went into it, but your efforts at least deserve some notice.

This is the EXACT reason I've been getting so depressed lately. I have varied interests but absolutely NOBODY around me has the slightest interest in anything I do. As long as I bring home the cash to pay the bills, that appears to be my only use to them.

People care when I produce a drawing and even tell me that they're jealous.
