Does it make me an alcoholic if I drink when I'm sad?

I've noticed lately that I've been taking a few shots before the Mr. gets home--we never resolve our arguments and I'm still hurting from the last one (he wants me to let it go and get over it). And I can do that...if I drink a little.

alcohol does relax & take some edge off but i would look into something more constructive to relieve tension. it may become a crutch that can lead to alcoholism. most addicts didn't try or want to become codependent. it was a gradual process. also see about trying to communicate with your spouse in a way that doesn't involve arguing. taking a break like walks or having time to yourself to unwind like a bath or going out may also help. right now it seems to be working. what you don't want is to be doing this daily as a way to cope. social drinking is fine, becoming dependent will lead your marriage into more problems.

No, it makes you sad if you are an alcoholic.

I eat cookie dough ice cream. Does that make me obese? I actually model. LOL I think people deprive themselves of certain things and when we feel like we're losing control emotionally we binge on what we normally can't have. Find other ways to expend your energy. Instead of grabbing alcohol or in my case ice cream you should take a walk at least or exercise or dance. Exercising increases endorphins which basically makes you happy. Don't ignore the problem you and your Mr. have.

Drinking while sad or depressed only intensifies it all. Why not share a story here as to what the fight was about ? Maybe some of us SUPPORTIVE types could help !

no it doesn't. if you wake up and think that you have to drink to survive the day..then you should worry. but i'd suggest talking to the Mr. before things get out of hand. good luck.

i'm an alcoholic, and there's a lot of factors to consider, but if you're drinking to dull feelings or escape, that's definitely a warning sign. be careful, okay?

I think you need to go see a marriage counselor with your hubby and try to work this out and solve what the issue is between the two of you. Taking a drink to numb your hurts isn't healthy!!
Talk to him and tell him you are having a hard time letting go and go talk to a professional!!!
If he won't go... go on your own!

take care... hugs

It doesn't mean that you are an alcoholic, although a problem could arise if this becomes habitual - it really isn't a good idea to rely on alcohol to ease misery!

I think that you and your Mister need to work things out despite how he feels. If you are unhappy and it is bothering you enough to drive you to drink than you need to sort out your problems before things get worse.
