Heritage is one of the meanings of legacy. The first meaning of legacy seems to be a physical thing left to someone; the second talks about something handed down from one generation to another, which can be either tangible or intangible. My understanding of the difference is that something that is one's heritage is something from one's ancestors or perhaps society from a certain era; legacy is something more tangible. However, they can synonymous.

Heritage is what others leave for you. Legacy is what you leave for others.
