    I have heard that there is only one sin. Stealing. Everything else is a variation of stealing

    Thieves may have to lie to steal successfully, but ordinary people lie all the time, even when they're not taking other people's stuff.

    Two different things. Some lie to spare feelings. Some lie because they are up to no good and are concealing the fact....to keep what they have maybe.

    Stealing would be lying without words though, for sure. People steal because they are either desperate or compulsive or greedy.
