I think Self-Respect is more about the 'act' of respecting yourself. Imagine it's the positive aspect. Is your home and appearance clean? Do you care for yourself? Do you actively treat yourself like you would someone you respect?<br />
Self-esteem is the passive side. Do you have compassion for yourself? Do you have confidence in what you can do?
Well, yes. It tears at your self compassion when you don't respect yourself. It's hard to respect yourself when you don't really feel you deserve it. By proxy, if you treat yourself with respect, you'll gain confidence. If you have confidence, it's assumed you'll want to treat yourself with respect. It's a great big spinning wheel of ego.
Not near as much as it SHOULD in most cases.
Self respect, self esteem, confidence, self assuredness, it all begins with loving yourself. If you can't love yourself, nobody else is going to be able to love you either. If you can accept and love yourself, all things become possible. Seriously.
i think there is some sort of synergy between the two. the level it extends to eludes me however.
