Does the emotional pain of past child abuse ever really go away?

Q&A Home   >  Health   >  Abuse

I am 30 years old and have probably spent over 10 years in therapy, all told. Overall, I'm a functional adult. But sometimes I'm reminded of the past, and it hurts so bad. Does it get better?

I dont think the pain goes away, you'll never forget, at least I know I won't but I can choose to forgive and move on with my life without making the memory of abuse be so present in my life. I'm still going through some things but its not as bad as it use to be, and that's my light in the darkness, knowing things will get better over time

    I'm 19.
    Still living with my parents.
    My dad's the abusive one...
I think the longer you spend your life with the abuser the worse the effects are.
I envy those who have divorced parents
