As much as we like to believe it's unlimited, it's not....
Most of our imagination is remnants of other people's imagination or things we perceive in reality. =)

The human mind is limitless. It never stops working. We can choose to hone in on it or we can choose to ignore it, but it doesn't stop it working. Imagination is a big BIG thing. It matches the barriers we place upon it and (of course) well beyond those barriers. There are those who meditate to tap into those deeper imaginations who could tell us they have seen / experienced a different level of enlightenment ... and I can certainly believe it becaus the imagination is without limit.
I think it does have a limit, it's limited by reality... I see it like this; the more you feed it with real experiences, the fewer it's limits... but we get old and stressed and lose our memory and so it's full potential will probably never be realised...

Yes, it is limited. We don't realize it is limited because as it is, the imagination is a vast place. It is very difficult to see our limits but they are there.
I can't imagine what it would be like to live in a world with 4, 5 or 6 spatial dimensions because I have always lived in a world with 3 spatial dimensions. I can't imagine what it would be like to see, hear and move around in a world with more spatial dimensions than we have.

I can't imagine a new colour. I can imagine colours that I have seen before but I can't imagine a new one.

I can't imagine a new taste, smell or even emotion. I can only imagine the ones that I have experienced before.

I can't imagine what it would be like to be born without sight, having never seen colours or peoples faces. If I went blind now, then I still know what colours and faces look like because I have seen them, but what if I never got a change to see them in the first place? How would I visualize things then?
Our imagination is limited by our experience. This doesn't mean that we can't come up with fantasy senarios of strange worlds and beings, but it does mean that there will be familiarities within those senarios.
