I'm just trying to clean some of the rubbish out of my room.

    Give them to a child that wants or needs them and you will achieve the same thing.

    If they mean nothing to you, then get them gone. But don't think getting rid of them will make you be more mature. If you are emotionally attached to something, save it. Put it in a box and stash it somewhere, but don't get rid of it. You can always throw something away later, if you wish, but you can't get it back if you throw it away and then regret it.

    No. A lot of times that just traumatizes people.

    Besides no one ever really grows up, they just learn how to act in public

    if it is done with respect

    ................ as in letting go of the past, then yes.

    if thrown as a tantrum

    .................................. that's a defo no help to maturity.

    it is the intention that is important, combined with the act.

    When I turned 30 I threw out all my old toys and the people next door pick them out of the trash and made $10,000 on eBay :(
