Don't people know that the purpose of the military is to kill people and break things?

All this humanitarian social work crap forced on servicemembers in addition to their usual duties needs to stop.

Go there. Kill the bad guys. Break stuff. And then get out.

That's it.

I am a veteran and a contractor in Afghanistan right now and we got soldiers basically just hanging out on the base for their whole deployment. Even in the surge all it was, was MORE soldiers, camping out. It was NOT more soldiers going out finding bad guys. Just more soldiers bullshitting for a year.

And people wonder why the US is getting their *** kicked in Afghanistan...

I strongly urge you to visit this site and watch the video there. YOu can find the same video on youtube by typing in "What on Earth will it take"

    or on youtube...

I will admit the first 30 minutes or so are about a lame as it gets, but once you get past all of that, the case that is made in the video is mind boggling.

Isn't this the conspiracy theory that combines all of them?

Yeah, you might say that. I post this thing whenever I see a like minded question posted here. How about you? What are your feelings on this matter?

Not at all the purpose of the military. However, if you just killed the "bad guys", there would just be more bad guys to take their place. You will never kill ALL the bad guys. EVER. So it is better to try and make peace and then keep it. And if they weren't sitting there doing nothing, then like you said, they'd be at home working a dead end job, or just adding to the unemployment. So at least they are keeping busy.

If you don't want stuff to be destroyed or people to be killed then the military should not be sent. Send the Red Cross. Send some diplomats. Whatever, but it doesn't make sense for the government to send over a bunch of armed kids and say, "oh we're just keeping peace". That is not what the military is for.

So if the government didn't send them over there, then what would all the troops be doing? Sitting at home killing people?

Yes, but they've been brainwashed to think that pressing a button to launch a missle isn't the same as shooting someone. Also that someone repairing tanks isn't to blame for the now functional tanks killing people.

If you aren't killing people in the military directly, you're helping them kill people.

The US army used to be the biggest terrorist group in the world. Don't believe me? Look up regime change, USA, and the years 1948-2009

You are contradicting yourself, again. How do you go out and just hang out on base, with more soldiers coming in, yet you say wonder why the US is getting their *** kicked in Afghanistan. You must have been in the background watching the action. I see you have an attidute problem that need adjustment.

Because that is exactly what is happening. I've been in Afghanistan for 3 years now working for a private company. 80% of the soldiers here don't do anything useful other than just back the numbers needed for the generals to be happy. They aren't doing anything! Yes the US is getting their *** kicked in Afghanistan. More soldiers are coming in but it doesn't matter because they aren't doing anything.

I don't want to say specifics about the *** kicking the soldiers are getting just because that would be wrong. But yes....it is happening all the time.

The purpose of the armed forces is to "keep the peace". Not to create more war, but to prevent it. Soldiers are trained in combat skills so that they can meet force with force, if necessary, to keep the peace.

Diplomats and DOD employees should be going around doing peace. Soldiers are not police officers and also not as well trained as them. The Army is kind of like a sledgehammer. It's like something that you unleash like a pack of wild dogs. If you had met enough of these guys you would understand what I mean. They aren't the brightest crayons in the box and most of the ones that are kicking the doors in are no more than high school graduates or people who had no options.....Not the kind of people who should be trying to decide right and wrong in a foreign country....

Hell take me for example. I just joined the Army because it was either that or try to pay off my student loans with dead end jobs and that would have taken forever. I have a BAD temper problem. I will admit that. I am not the kind of person to be acting as a policeman in a foreign country. I'd start an international incident...

I was in the military myself... you know what i did? I fixed computer problems that a caveman can fix... then when i have nothing to do i go on facebook, take my 30 min smoke break and then go back inside. It all depends what you do. I know people who sew military uniforms and thats all they do
