Ever had a seizure of some kind and never had one again?

My daughter described what sounded to me like a mild seizure. I've read that many people can have one during their life time and never have another. This is what I'm hoping for anyhow but have taken her to a Dr and waiting for an EEG appointment.

Is This A Good Question? (2)

I had one they call a "complicated migraine." I get migraines sometimes, but this caused paralysis of the right side of my body, and loss of speech. I had scans and MRI, which showed nothing. This was years ago, and I've not had one before or since. I had the EEG test, which showed "some tendency toward seizure activity" (they bombard the eyes with light pulses, which can cause seizures in many people). I don't put a lot of faith in that--they just don't know what happens sometimes.

    So I've been on a tricyclic--ametryptalin, i think it's called--to prevent migraines/seizures. It's also supposed to be a half-decent antidepressent.

I only recently learned that some migraines aren't just a really bad head ache. I hope you're recovered well. I haven't even googled what an EEG is yet. I didn't know what they did for that.

The EEG just measures brainwaves. I forgot to mention, they thought mine was a stroke at first, but the imaging ruled that out.

Non epileptic seizures can occur for a variety of reason even stress can cause them.

Thank you. It might have just been from having a busy evening and the rush of getting ready for bed at the end of it.

im glad your getting her checked as another person rightly said EEGs are not very accurate on their own. i have epilepsy and also suffer from non epileptic attacks ...very complex especially the build up before a seizure. good luck to your daughter.Fevers can also cause seizures in children.

My daughter & I both have epilepsy. It's controlled by medication. I do know that people (especially children) can have a single occurrence. EEG's don't always show everything. I suggest asking for an MRI as well.

Ah ok thanks for that. I was told that the EEG can come back clear too. Is epilepsy genetic? It sounds frightening.

It can be genetic. But children often develop childhood epilepsy for unknown reasons.

I'm pretty squeamish. I sometimes pass out from hypodermic injections. It's called a vasovagal episode or vasovagal response or vasovagal attack (also called neurocardiogenic syncope) and is a malaise mediated by the vagus nerve.
