I thought the real economic problem began when Nixon removed USA currency from the gold standard in year 1972, and problems inherent to the Federal Reserve Bank being able to print funny money anytime they want to tinker with the inflation rate. That is why the value of gold has soared for decades, while the rest of the economy has been in a permanent free fall. In that context, I am unpersuaded that any President or any political party is responsible. We just have a messed up system of currency.

No, but I have noticed when a Democrat has been President, there is usually depression somewhere, not necessarily monetary wise.
