If I like something I have learned about you, shared thoughts, interests, etc., then I invite you to join my "Circle." If you accept, then you are in my "Circle." If you then invite me to be in your "Circle" and I accept, we are now "Friends."

I have no clue what a Fan is or how you designate yourself as a Fan.

Isn't a fan just someone who's joined your circle and you haven't?

always learning ;) so why do people join circles...like when is it considered okay to join a persons circle? :P I am generally not this ignorant about things but I find EP a bit confusing... I didn't join to become friends with people I know as I consider it to be my own little get away and venting arena to strangers that will have my rant, but I cant help feeling a bit of a loner with no "friends" or circles :P haha!

It doesn't really affect me since I stay in Q&A mostly. You can see when people in your circle are online and chat with them. That's about all I get out of it. It's nice to keep track of people you meet though.
