You'll know it's the right time when your mood evolves from wanting to make love to her at every opportunity into the realization that she has become your best friend; the person who knows you better than anyone in the whole world, and with whom you are unafraid to be honest about who you are. Do you make each other laugh? Can you talk for hours about anything? Have you had to forgive each other for indiscretions or bad decisions? Forever is a long time and you need more than love to carry you. If in addition to love, you've got the things I've mentioned ..... you're good to go.

Well, you're never really SURE. Every big decision you'll ever make will be made with inadequate information... but after 4 years of exclusive dating.... after she spent two weeks on the back of my motorcycle on a 1800 mile trip... it seemed like a good bet. ;-)

Well, she had already picked out her engagement ring and wedding ring and I had been paying on them for a while, all before I had even asked her to marry me.

We dated all 4 yrs of high school (prom as juniors and seniors). We went to college together. I proposed during spring break of our sophomore yr of college and we were married the summer after we graduated from college.

The only thing I had was to "surprise" her by when and how I would propose. She and I each lived in a dorm for our 1st two yrs at college. We wanted to live together in an apartment off campus for our junior and senior yrs of college. We figured that being engaged would make it an easier sell to our parents so they would allow us to live together. Each of our parents agreed and we lived together during our junior and senior yrs of college.
