I think the reason it was so close is that people didn't want Obama again. But when your other choice is Mitt Romney, it's sort of like, fine, I guess it'll have to be Obama.

I'm astounded that the only 2 people America gave themselves for President is Obama & Romney though. Surely there's a point where someone says "Isn't there anyone better in this country to run for President!?"

The way I see it it was a victory for the lesser of two evils. I am not at all crazy about what Obama has done in regards to foreign policy and the new police state next door is terrifying but the same foreign policy and even more police state under Romney plus his right wing economics would have turned the US into a combination of the GDR and Greece especially with that crackpot Ryan as VP.

Pleased. It was a great result for Obama and his supporters and a relief that a religious fundamentalist won't be in charge of the world's most powerful country.

I'm not quite clear what you're asking. In military terms, US power exceeds the next six largest combined; in economic terms the US remains the world's biggest and - I understand - most productive. In geopolitical terms surely no other country is so influential, nor so ready to vigorously promote its interests across the globe. In all those senses, the US remains the dominant post-war force shaping our world. I should add a note that American popular cultural influence, baleful though it may be with moronic tv cop shows and all the rest of it, has embedded pretty much all over the world. And, to get a little more high-falutin', the influence of the New York School is still working its way through artists' studios everywhere. How many more specifics would you like?

They're not alone. I saw a poll the other day that analysed whether people in 31 or 35 other countries would prefer Obama to Romney. 81% said Obama. And among European countries, it is usually above 95%. Honestly, I'm not a great supporter of Obama, but he's way better than Romney. Americans chose the best of two evils, in my opinion.

I was estatic. America is in the lead which means that whatever you do, everyone else follows. When Mitt Romney was talking about abortion, suddenlt abortion became an issue in parliment over here in the U.K. I knew that if America took 10 steps backwards so would everyone else. So thank goodness Romney didn't win.

Not much change in the house, but very happy Romney did not take office. Also, great progress for both gay rights and for marijuana legalization.

As a foreigner I can only say that I was relieved that Romney lost. He seemed very right-wing and pro-wealthy and didn't appear to have any policies to help the majority of Americans.
