For women who wear make-up, what's your routine?

Q&A Home   >  Hobbies   >  Fashion

My friend's wedding is about 6 weeks from now and besides youtube and makeupalley I'm trying to learn this make-up thing since I've never really worn any before. I had a foundation sample done at M.A.C in the mall and I already have my shade and have a good idea of blush, mascara, etc. I guess I'm asking how do you put it on? What goes first?

First you wash the face, of course.
Apply moisturizer and anything else if you need to.
Then apply face primer. It helps the foundation last. Also apply eye primer, so the eye makeup wont smudge during the day.
Then foundation and concealer, set it with a powder.
Afterwards, you can fill in your brows if you need to, if not, just skip that step.
Then you just apply your eyeshadow, blush, contour and highlight your face. Voilà.

So moisturizer and primer can be worn at the same time?

Well, I wash and then moisturize. I do a very light and natural foundation (Like my freckles to show, I even tan to bring them out), a light bit of concealer if needed, a very light pre-powder, then blush. I will then usually do eyebrows by lightly putting a powder of EYESHADOW that matches my current hair color. I change up the eyes a lot, but generally do dramatic shadows with a darker triangle of color toward the outer edge of the lid and a neutral that blends into the darker triangle at the inner edge of the lid. Mascara...depends on how dramatic you want it. I'll do black black mascara when my hair is really chocolate brown. I like the boldness. I've heard that if you really accentuate your eyes you should go very light on the lips, so I'll do a simple gloss with maybe a bit of sparkle or a hint of an orange tint to complete the look.

You got 6 weeks. Experiment. Your face is your canvas, your make up, your palette.

Well, I'm not doing my own makeup, their friend's teenaged daughter is..I'm a little worried. In the meantime I'm just looking for drug store stuff that flatters because I'm on a very tight budget and buying my own. They shouldve waited when they had more money to do this, but whatever. Sorry, ranting lol

lol unfortunately weddings and that crap don't fall on our personal time schedules. It's a shame, lol Anyway yeah. I get you and make up is xpensive as. CVS and WAlgreens tho will usually do a buy one get one 50% off depending on when. You can hit big time paydirt there.

I don't wear foundation, I hate the thought of it clogging my pores. I don't know why, it just makes me uncomfortable. But I use eye shadow, mascara and some lippy.
