Try to stay calm. Ok. When I opened up my organic chemistry book almost twenty years ago... I cried. I actually cried. I'm not kidding. Not even a little bit.
Chemistry can be challenging, but that doesn't mean you don't have the chops for it. Don't skim the book before class, you'll just make yourself flip right out. Just... for the sake of remaining calm... check out a few help sites... homework assistance... that kind of thing. Pay attention in class. Read the material you're supposed to read and get a tutor early on if you find you aren't 'getting it'... Take it one step at a time. Chemistry courses are designed to slowly build your abilities up. You start small and just build on it.Like (2)

Urgh, I had to do it when I was doing a Biological Science degree and it did my feckin' nut in - try and memorise the periodic table, and it... sort of, begins to make sense.

The stuff can be overwhelming if you don't have a good book or a good teacher.
