No, I disagree. We may want things, but I think that is an aspect of civilisation and not inherent in humanity. We were travellers many thousands of years ago. Greed was detrimental to that way of living and now we have jobs, careers, mortgages, banks and global wars.

greed is necessary. A society that doesnt want more will become stale and never advance. its human nature to want more and better.

A valid description of "Utopia" along with whether theft is included in your use of the word "greed" is necessary to avoid a conflict of terms answer.

We have to ask ourselves:
1. They cannot find a way to make a car that does not depend on gas or high amounts of additives, or even a better solution? Really?
2. They cant cure cancers, and yet billions of dollars are spent on research. Really?
3. This Nation is the greatest ever, we have squandered our resources by greed an pride and avericeness.
We can do a great deal to improve our problems. If we don't make them work on it, It could mean the end of civilization sooner than later.
Im sayin Puck..YES greed is deadly... You can bet that the rich have stockpiles of water and food - they will survive.
Reading a story called Heat Wave. Interesting.

Sorry to say, you are right. There will always be people who will allow greed to corrupt them.

It's the bedrock that underlies the corporate community, and they share it with the masses through seductive matketing and advertising.
In my view, advertising and marketing companies represent the greatest evil that we face in the developed world.

Yes. Sadly people are not content to use only what is necessary.

I'll buy that, I don't necessarily agree but I have to think about it.

I don't think so. In a genuine post-scarcity society greed would be meaningless. I'm thinking of the sort of society described in Iain M Banks 'Culture' novels

Nope......even in the animal kingdom there is always a leader, there is always a stronger breed that gets first dibs on the kill, eats more and leaves the scraps for the weaker ones.
