Hamlet by William Shakespeare- Whatta YOU think?

I'm studying Hamlet by William Shakespeare at the moment and I'd just like to know what others who are studying/have studied it think? Did you find it difficult to read? What are your opinion of certain charecters? What rating would you give it out of ten? etc. :)
PS: What age is Ophelia's charecter supposed to be?

It's very good - definitely one of his best plays. I'd give it a 9/10. As you read more and more Shakespeare, you'll find that you get used to the language - however, IMHO, Shakespeare is always easier to listen to than it is to read.

As for the characters... Most of them are nuts (but understandably so). There are a lot of social and religious codes that dictate their behavior, and lead to their downfall. I always like Horatio though - he gets some good lines. :)

The play never actually specifies Ophelia's age, or even the length of time that the play covers. Hamlet is generally accepted to be around 30 when he returns from England, but a lot of scholars have suggested that he's considerably younger in the early acts of the play. Others argue that the whole play takes place over the period of no more than 6 months or so. In any case, Ophelia is generally played as being in her late teens or early 20s at the start of the play.

I love Shakespeare. You'll get used to reading it, the odd syntax, and it won't be a hindrance anymore. Hamlet is considered a classic. It's been over a decade since I read it, but I assume that Ophelia is a young woman--say mid to late teens. She's old enough to be involved with Hamlet, and back then courtship began quite young.

She's my favorite character. Her love for him is her undoing; to keep up his ruse of being mad (and he is going mad in actuality), he treats her really bad. She can't figure it out, and in turn goes mad herself and commits suicide. The tragic love.

I used to memorize parts of Hamlet. His "to be or not to be" is a challenge that is still with us. Ophelia is very abtuse as characters go. She doesn't seem to add much to his angst.

Hamlet was very difficult to read in it's original old english format. I found shakespeare for dummies and a few other modern translations of the work to be particularly helpful. Claudius is a jerk and the body count at the end of the play is pretty high. 6/10.

I think Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet is the best going.
