meds are essential, but I find that maintaining a healthy weight helps tremendously, as does peace of mind/stress management and plenty of rest and sleep balanced with work, exercise and perhaps some love too...
take care of yourself, its a tough one to manage sometimes.

Is there fluoride in your drinking water?, if so cut that out. Fluoride can seriously impair the pineal gland, which your thyroid needs to assist it in moderating and functioning.

I know a lot of things to help hypothyroidism but i would not want to be responsible for any bad reactions with the medication your on. Not to mention herbology just plain gets a bad rap and im not there in person to get a proper diagnoses or understand what state your bodies in.

Advice i can give you though.

The only preventative medicine is food and exercise, food is itself in my opinion the best medicine( am not a registered medical professional) . with that said some foods: kelp is really healthy and it has iodine in it that your thyroid is most likely needing, i dont recommend salt internally as theres enough in food but if you use salt iodized salt may help. Mustard greens contain tyrosine utilized in the production of thyroid hormones, other plants that contain tyrosine; velvet bean seeds, carob, winged beans, bean sprouts, lupines, soybeans, oats, peanuts, spinach, watercress, sesame seeds, butternut squash, chives, fava beans, pumpkin seeds, snowpeas and cabbage. Radishes are said to help moderate thyroid hormone production, walnuts are also said to boost thyroxine.

Lemon balm is said to moderate thyroid hormone levels whether high or low. It is safe and also assists in relieving mild anxiety and helps with depression, can assist in sleeping soundly. If your hypothyroidism has caused irritable bowel syndrome lemon balm may also help that, let me know if there are other symptoms along with it.

If you have chronic fatigue with it dont drink coffee if you are going to use something use ginseng or yerba mate. Yerba mate has caffeine but it has lots of vitamins and minerals that you need, like c, a,e, zinc, b vitamins.

If it is accompanied by depression, chamomile, Omega 3 and omega 6. The common mints spearmint/ peppermint/ lemon balm (and a lot of the others but stick to these ones for now) are excellent at soothing the nervous system and are a source of omega 3 fatty acid.

Testing your body temperature from armpit in the mornings(should start any time at least 2 days after menstruation), after five days do an average temperature if its normal then your on the right track. That may not apply considering medication.

Hypothyroidism is sometimes really bad for cholesterol levels, are yours ok?

Theres a million things (not literally) that are attatched to hypothyroidism that can be treated easily with diet and proper exercise. Before you do anything including changing your diet talk to your doctor (i really dislike saying that but hopefully you have a good doctor).

If i new more i may be able to supply more information.
There are free software online and some you can pay for if you want a good one that assist in monitoring nutrition, such as CRON-o-Meter.

Have to have the meds, but eating right really helps balance everything out. I find eating less meat and more fruit and veggies works well as well as getting plenty of excercise.

Yes - taking supplemental enzymes, B Vitamins, Iodine, and Kelp has helped me a lot, as well as staying away from refined/white carbohydrates, as my body doesn't seem to process them very well.
