Not from Chicago to Toledo, but was on an Amtrack train a week and a half ago from Austin to Fort Worth. I found the train to be clean, comfortable, and very pleasant to ride. Beware of high prices for food and drink on the train, though.

No but I took Amtrak from KC to Chicago, 'twas fun and comfortable traveling. I'd recommend smuggling food/snacks/drinks in your carry on or at least purchasing from the snack bar, NOT the train restaurant "club car" which is crazy expensive and not that good (food or service).
