Has anyone evr experienced psychosis from just smoking weed?

i used to smoke weed. Only drug I ever did regularly, only drug I was doing at the times it happened. i started when I was 18 and my use became heavy when I was in my twenties. I never had a problem with it till I was 26, that was when the psychosis started. I got real paranoid and would see things or think bad things were going to happen. I also heard voices and got real obsessed with the end of the world and God and Satan. I though the world was coming to an end and I had to find a way to stop it, alot of spiritual stuff. So it took a few bouts of this but I finally quit altogether. I am now 33 and drug free! Just wondering if I am alone in this experience? Used to think I was a freak because i thought it was only the harder stuff that caused this.

I know it's very common these days to experience some very negative effects frm overuse of poor weed. I don't think though that weed can cause hallucinations. There are no hallucinogen chemicals in weed. Auditory hallucinations are (almost) proof of some form of schizophrenia, or magic mushrooms. The paranoia? Well that's partly th users own being hightened by th weed, but I'd like to talk "resin profiles" for a mo. There are several chemicals in weed, but commercial strains (from smelly central african crossed with Afghan hashish plants), due to gov policy, the weed is made to have as high a quantity of THC (stoning element) as possible, to make it valuable. no one breeding it seems to care whether its balanced out with plenty of CBD (giggle element). THC taken on its own will ALWAYS cause paranoia, impending doom, etc. Oh yeah, and it's not "pumped-up w chemicals" it is only th BREEDING. I think long-term use of commercial strains is almost guaranteed to cause harm. Luckily THC psycosis stops th moment you stop using! For those stil using try Indian Landraces or leave it out to air so th THC oxidises and you get mo of a soporiphic effect. I gave up 20hrs ago!!

Hon, I hate to tell you, but I think you have a serious chemical imbalance...I don't know much about psychoses...but I do know that you had some signs of schizophrenia. I used to smoke weed..Never showed an inkling of schizophrenia, because it isn't in my genetic makeup...(I hope!!). I think maybe the weed brought it to the forefront... I just was laid back and it calmed my nerves...hmmm...maybe I should start back...lol!

My friends do weed. They do see things, if they've been smoking a lot that time. One of my friends leaves school before he has a project or something that he has to show the class, he gets majorly high, starts seeing things, swears he's in the desert. everything like that. he hears things too.

I smoke weed. Very occassionally. I do not know a single person who has smoked large amounts over an extended period of time and hasn't ended up with some kind of mental issues.

My uncle has psychosis from smoking weed, but he was always a little off to begin with apparently.
I also once dated a guy (for a very breif time) who smoked every day for 13 years. It took me only a couple of days to realise he was skitz.

I think smoking weed has a lot of pluses (however, a lot of it the hydro stuff these days is so pumped with chemicals, i don't know whether to trust it) ... All in moderation.

As someone once told me, "It's the abuse, not the use of drugs that's the problem".

You know that friend of yours who only needs one beer to get drunk? Or that family who has eight drunks out of 10 in the family?

Some folks' CNSs are wired differently. Some are genetically pre-disposed to react strongly to the active substances in anything: strawberries, alcohol, and cannabis.

Without getting too technical, yes, plain old mary-jay-wanna can cause temporary psychosis in some people. The psychoactive substance in weed can act as a hallucinogen. You may have been more vunerable. I saw a girl go nuts after a contact high. It was not pretty.

Glad you are not smoking any more, dude.

I used to smoke alot in my teens and twenties. I stopped after I had a really bad fit of paranoia. I locked myself in my room til my high wore off. I never smoked it again after that. I've done other things and have had minor hallucinations but nothing like that paranoia. It was awful.

When I think back.....yes I did have a bit of a fixation and terror out of all proportion about spontaneous human combustion, and with the cold war raging~ the fear of the end of the world that we all had in those days!! It was really horrible......and quite different from the more rational fears I have today. Being at an art college it was part and parcel to smoke a lot.

I didn't smoke a lot I only tried it a few times, the last time I only took one hit (it must've been really good stuff) and I was completely stoned! Then I started getting paranoid, I thought my friends were planning something against me so I went outside and just stood there for what seems hours waiting for my boyfriend to get his keys and drive me home.
He didn't take me straight to my parent's house because I was in such a crappy state...he took me to his apartment, I sat in the bathroom hugging the toilet for hours! Never smoked pot again though :)
I still wonder if the pot was mixed with something else, but my boyfriend said it was just pot and it didn't affect anybody else like that but me.

i smoked it once after a boyfriends dad died ... i never saw anything but i did get so paranoid that my friends put me in a room by my self because i was " killing their buzz" I thought everyone knew that we were high and my friends where trying to drive to a jack n the box and got mad at me because i wouldnt get in the car ( walked along side it) because i was telling them that smoking andd driving was wrong and that we were all going to die if we got in... so we ended up walking ... then my heart was going so hard that i thought i would die... and i felt like someone kept tapping me on the shoulder....
Im super sensitive to any meds or drinks or weed ....
like sometimes i take kids meds for when im sick or just half of the adult dose...
for drinks i can have 1 drink and be buzzed all night and not have to buy another and still feel like crap the next day

weed i will never do it again!

i would go to a doc just to make sure you dont have any mental illness issues ... but if your not feeling this way now after not doing it for a while you should be fine and more than likely it was the drugs, but still see a doc and tell them what happend.

I personally have not experienced phychosis, but I did become extremely depressed, and developed agoraphobia.

If you have a tendency to any mental illness, weed will bring it to the fore. This can be negative or positive. If it brings it to the fore, then you can get yourself treated, but if you don't admit it you can suffer a great deal.

I smoked weed for about 7 years because my then partner did, and had a houseful of young people who did. Eventually it seemed to have no effect on me at all, except to make me sick sometimes.

Now I have moved and stopped. I still have some agoraphobia, but nothing like as bad as it was. I have also had therapy, and am absolutely fine now, though the therapy was not for smoking weed directly, but for depression.

I never had any kind of psychosis from smoking pot, but I have had panic attacks. I used to smoke a lot in high school, and it was a way for me to deal with panic attacks, then right after high school, when I would smoke pot it would give me panic attacks! Needless to say I stopped smoking pot at that point. Thank you.

Wow. That sounds like some really good weed. How can a get a dime bag of that?

This is actually pretty common. I don't like going out in public when I am stone. In fact, the conditions have to be pretty much set up for some veg time at home. I get paranoid and don't like having to deal with activities that require me to think. Like sothisisme said, I think that everyone knows I am stone. The weirdest thing is that this is so common that it is often joked about in weed comedies.

I marvel at people who go around functioning while stone. I don't see how they do it, but plenty do. I believe it has something to do with your individual personality prior to smoking. People who tend to want to control things, don't do so well when they get high.

Oh yeah, Satan told me that I should tell you, "hello".

I have done far too many drugs in my life and i honestly don't think what you were experiencing had anything to do with the weed. I have never heard of anything like that from just smoking and not doing anything else with it.

I get a bit para when im out and about stoned, so i generally don't go out and about when im stoned! I only smoke it at night anyway - it helps me sleep. I think this 'reefer madness' theory is B.S. You have to be tapped in the first place, or at least have mental illness in your genes. It has been known for years that illnesses like schitzophrenia are present at birth and only show themselves between the ages of 18-30; if you show no symptoms by age 30, you never will. It is a fact however, that half of all first-time admissions to psychiatric units are alcohol induced, but alcohol is a nice, legal, taxable drug, so it's ok. I cannot comment on the soap bar, as i only smoke skunk, but i do know that soap bar contains around 5% cannabis, the rest of it made up from various things, such as petrol, diesel, vinyl, dog sh1t, ketamine & various other animal tranquilisers - so yeah, i imagine that crap could drive you mad, if it doesn't tear your lungs to shreds first! Soap bar is in actual fact, a product of prohibition - it's the draconian drug-laws that create the demand, when the police raid yet another farm, remove a good, organic supply & all we're left with is soapbar. I do without, but most will buy it & if they end up losing the plot on it, it's not fair to blame cannabis, as it's only 5% of the mix. People don't know what smoking vinyl does to your lungs, because no-one's been daft enough to smoke it until now - and this is down to prohibition.
Paranoia? maybe, but psychosis? Nah! Not unless you already have the ingredients & if you do, your biggest fear should be alcohol, as it's that drug that really does damage.
The worst i've ever felt, is like overman says - when you go to the shop for cigs AND zigzags AND chocolate AND nuts and you're at the till thinking 'thay know im stoned, my eyes are all red, im buying munchies, **** and skins together, they must know im stoned' If that's the worst it does, i can live with that, lol.

Weed can stir up underlying psychological issues if you take enough of it, but it usually doesn't give you anything that isn't there to begin with.
