My daughter has been clean and sober from Meth for almost 3 years, has she overcome it? No agency here would help her, so I did. She says given the right or wrong circumstances she might use it again, we take each day one day at a time. I will say she is not the same person as she was before meth... caring deeply about things is a struggle for her, empathy is a struggle, and she is now struggling with OCD issues she did not have before meth. She still struggles to honor my personal boundaries, ( what's hers is hers and what's mine is hers... in her mind anyway), but every day it gets better. Taking her in, helping her get clean and helping raise my grandson was utter hell on me.... I have never gotten even a minor acknowledgment for the things I sacrificed to help her, and I don't expect any from her at this point. Would I do it again? You betcha, it's what moms do... we may not always like what our kids do, but most moms love their kids enough to do whatever it takes to keep them safe, even as adults.

If you are struggling to reclaim your life, I wish you much success in doing so. If someone you care about is struggling, you cannot do it for them, but don't give up on them. It's a long hard road either way. Namaste!

Drinking, not drugs, it will take while if they can.

Good luck.

You will not overcome it if you will not overcome the reason you started with it. You should face the root of your addiction, no matter how deep it is...

One thing we have to look at with any addiction is that we never completely overcome it, as in it goes away forever. What we do is learn how to deal with it one day at a time.
We can't just take a little of the substance that has us in its thrall. We can never use it again in order to remain clean and sober.
However, when we take it one day at a time, each day is a little victory in the giant battle for our lives. If we don't make it sober through one day, then we start again the next day and pray for the strength to keep on going.
So my answer is that there are people who have put their meth addiction into abeyance and have promised themselves not to use again.

I was a meth cook in the 70s and 80s....I had created a designer class of meth and was also using my product....I got careless and was caught and sentenced to 25 years in prison....I served 5 years and was released on parole.....the years of withdrawal helped me to see that what I was doing was slowly destroying not only my life but also the people I was supplying.

I have now been clean and sober for 22 years but still consider myself to be in recovery each and every day

So....yes it can be done....but first you really have to desire to quit....I can tell you that withdrawal is tough....the emotional ups and downs....and possibly some physical pain as well.

I can only encourage you to quit.....and can answer questions if you need to ask. The rest is up to you and only you!
