Resolved Question

Has anyone tried Chantrix to quit smoking? Any luck?

The Chantrix is very expensive, kicking the habit cost over 100.00 on one kit. No idea what the cost is for the second week. But the doctor gave us a Rx. Did it work for you? Did you gain weight?

You do have to be careful with that drug, I work in a pharmacy and out of all 10,000 drugs, Chantix was actually proven to be the most addictive. It beat out adderall and vicodin! If you are trying to quit an addiction, you might not want to try this drug for you will probably get addicted to this.. Good Luck With You!!!!!!!!!

I tried all kinds of things but not Chantrix. They can all work but for me it never stuck until I went cold turkey. Good luck.

After smoking for over 25 years and not even being 100% sure he wanted to, my boyfriend quit within a week. He's been smoke-free now for almost 2 years and has never had any cravings.

He calls is "the magic pill"

Hubby and I both quit on it...for a time. I didn't have physical side effects, nor the weird dreams that I've heard others have. However, we both wound up with the "attitude", and argued alot. We both wound up smoking again. He quit on Chantix again in Dec (doing pretty well) and I quit in Feb without it (doing very well).

For anything to work, you have to want it for the right reasons, otherwise you will slip and/or fall back into the old pattern. My parents both used it, and while it helped Mom somewhat, it didn't help Dad at all. Mom had bad dreams...scary ones...and she got depressed.

As far as the expense, ONLY if you really want to quit should you go to the expense. You might need more than just one or two scripts, and it can be an expensive failure. But, if you do want to quit, I recommend one half of the couple quitting at a time. Easier on the marriage that way if you react like we did! lol It is well worth the expense if you want it, and stick with it, and >>> don't ignore any warning signs (depression, bad dreams, physical problems, suicidal thoughts etc)!!!!

My partner's mom used it and had suicidal thoughts and was an absolute monster to be around. She had horrible nightmares too, she ended up flushing the rest of the pills down the toilet. I do know someone that quit on it with only the side effect of loathing everyone within a 10 mile radius lol but what do you expect, you're quitting smoking.

What exactly is Chantrix, And how does it work? My biggest fear is the weight gain. I'm wishing, hoping, and praying for a drug to come out that helps you lose weight while you quit. I know its unrealistic, but one can dream.
I used to be an alcohol and drug counselor, and while in college I learned that people, not all ofcourse, who have depression, mild or severe, naturally gravitate twards smoking, there is something in cigarettes that is a natural antidepressant, which would explain why some people suffer from depression when they quit. Omega fatty acids are a great natural way to combat depression. Montel Williams has talked about how well it has helped him with MS, and the depression that goes along with it. Also that it kinda helps clear your head of that foggy feeling and helps people to think more clearly.
Anywho I would really like more info on this new drug for quitting, I know I can't do it on my own. For those that have gone years smoke free, did you gain weight?

Chantix didn't work for my husband, but he is sooooo sensitive to drugs anyway. It worked for me, with the only side effect being an upset stomach, so I always took it after I had something to eat. Yes, It is EXPENSIVE....But it worked for me!!!

So far it's the only thing that got my husband to quit smoking but he did have some funky dreams (nightmares) and was always in a bad mood (other than the usual moods you get when quitting smoking).
I have heard the same from other people.

I took it and it worked...Don't take it if you hate pills. Dont take it if your not prepered for some serious side effects. The only reason this pill should be taken is strickly to quit smoking and then get off of them. The side effects are very bad, and that's saying a lot considering my extremely high pain tolerance.....
