Computer / Internet for me is the only place I can display my emotions. I suppose everyone is different in that regard, some feel unsafe sharing emotion, stigmatised by the 'unsafe' Internet. I suppose because I have a more firm grasp of language I am comfortable expressing my emotion in words.

I think it has to do with being able to express ones self in general. Generally speaking, most computer users don't use computers as a 'book' as such. There is much emotion to be gained from other mediums, thus people seem more emotionally in touch there.

I am very much like the pink bunny, i can only show my true colours on the computer. My feelings emotions, and i know that it is like that for a lot of people. There are a lot of married people on here that come on for a chat that they cannot have with anyone else in case they are judged.

To be honest, all i can say is thank god for the internet or else i would be ******.

nonsense. it's just a quite new form of expresion, while it's direct and intensive. for me it is a way to learn interactive about things. and have a good time or conversation. or a bad time...haha i think it's all in the game. in the beginning i was probably expecting too much, but being 2 months around, i got used with it and am liking it and it there is no difference in how i deal with people now, as it is here or in the real world. but i certainly have changed my vision about people; i wouldn't make the same mistakes again. this has really kept my busy. i have some very personal experiences here and have no doubts about their emontional value.
it's so easy to say to yourself that you are only sitting behind my computer. but it's no difference as in the real world, because we are real; that's the point you speak of .

Yes in some ways. You may be interested in seeing the movie Surrogates it kind of takes this subject to the next level.

Apparently, from what I can see from these answers.

Hiding behind a computer screen does not make a person "in touch" with emotions or reality, and I think that is becoming more and more evident every day. Spend some time around kids (7th-12th grade-ish) and watch how they interact with each other. They will text each other from across the room rather than walk a few feet and talk face to face.

This is especially useful if the conversation has anything to do with rejection, depression, or any other area of emotional vulnerability.

I wouldn't say people have lost touch of emotions, per se, just lost touch of reality and human interaction.

YES!

the pc has allowed people to hide behind their screens. No 'touching'. NO INSTANT answer. Can't see a face/expression.

People CAN think out their answers which make it hard to determine if they are being truthful/real or not.

Lost touch with my own emotions? No. That happened long before I became a chronic computer user.

But seeing others' emotions, yes. I have great difficulty determining others' disposition of me when I have little to no feedback.
