Almost no one has been to a real psychoanalyst. It's very intensive, almost daily sessions and extremely expensive. It's also not very successful. If you're talking about regular psychotherapists, I used to be one.
I tend to agree with you. That said, the success rate is low.

to close for comfort. she asked if i heard voices, my scene of humor took over. i looked at the empty chair next to me and sternly said. NO but he dose, glad she saw it as a joke.
I went to a cognitive behavioural specialist and it was very liberating and helpful - I wished I'd gone years earlier. I prefer her back and forth style to just me doing all the talking. She would challenge my thinking outright and it was good for me to figure some things out.
It wasn't cheap though so as soon as my coverage was up, I had to say sayanara. I hope to go back, though!
