Have you ever been completely without energy? How did you increase it and how long did it take?

I have been, yes. I increased it by having blood tests and finding out that I had both Hashimoto's Disease and insulin resistance, in relation to PCOS and treating those conditions with medication. It took about a month for me to start regaining energy. If you're suffering from an unexplained drop in energy levels, perhaps you should see a doctor. What can it hurt?

this is a problem for me constantly. i think it mainly comes from working nights and certain medications i take. i try to combat it with exercise, vitamins and trying to eat a better diet. and plenty of sleep too is a must. i don't know if it really helps alot but it doesn't hurt.

Yes, I have. I was married to a succubus for years, she drained all the energy from me. The divorce, and resultant Manic episode, took care of my energy deficit issue dramatically.

Only once in my life (when I accidently drank gas) I was having a party and one of the guys had filled a small glass with gas for some reason. I thought it was bourbon and I shot it down. God, it felt awful and I started running around and around in circles. After about five minutes, I fell over, completely out of energy. I had just run out of gas.

Better diet. Less meat, more vegies, less breads & sweets. More exercise, accupuncture, no caffeine.

I think if you are completely without energy, then you are dead.

Very low energy - yes. I experienced this when I was working a 50-hour/week job that was an hour commute, one way, from my home. I was also going to night school full time (a 45 minute one way commute), and moving into a new home, and taking care of a friend who just experienced a family death, and living single, all at the same time.

I had to quit the job. Total burnout!

Immediately after quitting the job, I literally stayed in bed for an entire weekend, only coming out for a few times to use the toilet.

The 'round-the-clock sleep was only the beginning of my energy recovery. In fact, 9 years later, I'm still not sure that I have my energy back 100%.

Duana, It would be interesting to know what your reason is for asking this question. I would love to know specifically how this comes up for you and what you are seeking in response. Its a very open ended question. My response may not at all address your interest. But here are my thoughts:

Without knowing what your situation is, I'll address my own experience (which is situational--normally I've been blessed with a strong vital constitution.) However, I do know individuals who have to deal with this problem as a way of life. Their approach to it has varied from person to person. Its an area that fascinates me because it so profoundly affects the quality of being fully available to life, in so many ways.

For myself, the times I've experienced this are in relation to either an illness, or powerful emotional distress. Either way in both situations I found a common element. In addition to taking care of myself in the basic ways (sleep, nourishment, treatment, a safe environment conducive to recovery or healing) there seemed to be a dilemma to face. I'll call it 'deep decision making'.

I'm referring to a sense (everytime I've experienced this, no matter what the reason or circumstance) that I had a choice. That there was a deep-down pull toward what I'll call 'giving up' or 'giving in'. An almost seductive slide that would be so easy to roll into, that wanted to just succumb to the energy-less embrace. And this 'pull' seemed synonymous with letting the life-force dim. Not trying to hold onto it.

So, when I felt this 'choice' arise it was usually from a deep inside far-away 'place', almost as if Life itself was receeding and I really no longer cared. But at the same time there were points of meaning or worth that would grab my attention and become a positive pull. As if lifeforce was calling me to hold on. To do whatever I had to do not to let go.

Being a mother and loving this planet and having passions toward things I care about--made such moments or such decisions seem important. Like I had to choose. And at such moments I noticed that it required me to almost exert effort (which I didn't have any energy for at the time!) to get past that seductive pull of just giving in or giving up.

Does any of this make sense to you at all? As I describe this, it sounds much more complicated and dramatic then it actually was. Its subtle and a hard thing to put words to. But I've gone into detail because I think that there CAN BE a powerful leaning in one direction or another (even if subconscious) that can contribute to whether or not this "energy drain" becomes a pattern or which direction it moves toward.

On a practical level, I have found that QiGong (or chi gong) is the single most effective practice for restoring energy, maintaining energy, and balancing energy flow so that health and wellbeing are able to thrive. When I don't go to my QiGong class twice a week, I feel sluggish, my digestive system slows, my mood droop, I tend to fall into the inertia of inactivity and it becomes a cycle that is hard to climb back out of.

QiGong, like Accupuncture works on the Meridian Lines in the body, which according to Chinese Medicine, require open unblocked flow in particular directions. If the flow is sluggish, becomes blocked, or goes in the wrong direction, energy and health problems arise. A more scientific explanation of acupuncture is that the stimulation of certain trigger points on the body by acupuncture needles affects the autonomic nervous system, the vascular and endocrine physiology, and the brain chemistry, as well as the body's production of endorphins. Both Accupuncture and QiGong have been lifesavers for me.

I was completely without energy after being in a remote area for somewhere around 4 days..First two days I didn't sleep a wink. Third day I slept, but without food, was wearing down quickly. Seems like a coupla days past since, and that last day I was exhausted. I recovered it when my friends took me back to where I was suppose to be and got to sleep for 8 solid hours and good a good meal in me. :) It was a grueling experience, but I learned alot from it.
