Have you ever been conned?

Yes, by the sharp actions of a fairground stall. The game simply rolled table-tennis balls down a ramp into numbered slots and whether it or you won depended on odd or even totals. Strange how the operator always added it up more quickly than the pla
yer, then re-set it, and the total was always in his favour.
Lesson learnt...
The second time was potentially much more serious and much more recent. I'd fought off several cold calls telling me my "computer has reported a fault...", or telling me "This is the Windows Corporation" - the callers broke off abruptly when I told them Windows is a Microsoft trademark.
Then one day I fell for a caller persuading me to open some embedded maintenance software the ordinary user would not and need not know exists. It lists all the operating-system actions, with red crosses to show where something had not worked, and the chap told me the estimated number indicated impending total failure.
Only when I'd paid some £80 by credit card and saw their remote technician dismantling the security software in the name of "servicing" a computer that had been running perfectly well, did I twig the danger. I immediately switched the machine off at the mains, and ignored the resulting telephone calls.
I managed to get my money back but by then I'd cancelled and renewed my bank cards, and notified the bank & authorities of my suspicions. The company may have been "genuine" in that it existed, behind accommodation phone numbers concealing its true location as Delhi, and sold real software, but even if honest it was at best pointless software & at worst liable to cause more harm than good.Like (1)

so many times, it's unbelieveable. unscrupulous business people are forever scamming me. I had a huge aluminum ladder and a man I hired to do drywall told me he was going to steal it. He did rip me off for $300 and a few tools but I did get the drywall done. I have been conned other times too but managed to survive. Trouble is, once I agree to something like a price even if I later find out it is unfair...I still feel compelled to pay it as I had originally agreed.A couple of relatives have done this and it is not cool but we go on.

In middle school, I was conned into giving my friend portions of my lunch every day.
She ended up getting really fat. :PLike (1)
