This is the truth, the earlier you accept, the better:
They don't care about you. Never have, never will.
Power, money, will ALWAYS be abused. And as long as people think that 'someone' can make things better, nothing will change.

actually, it's the opposite..I'm talking about people changing things, not giving up hope, gosh no.. People are out there making a difference and will continue to do so. It's important that the citizens realize that only they can help themselves, not politicians, only they can change this mentality of giving undue respect to the rich and powerful that makes them feel like gods, only people can shake off their apathy and abandon ignorance and choose knowledge, but our society has grown so inert, so accustomed to injustice that all that we see things through the perspectives of profit/loss. They call being selfish, being average, being obedient workers, being robots, being 'practical'. In other words, I don't have enough belief in anything, nor do I want to stand up for anything, so I'll just accept whatever happens, and make fun of those who dare think different

Yes, My Republican senator was of a great deal of help when I had a problem with the INS saving me hundreds of dollars in legal fees.. When contacted, my Democrat Senator brushed me off with a non responsive form letter.

Yes. Our city politicians are easy to reach and good to deal with; our local MP (member of parliament) responds quickly and fully to letters to his office. I can't say my whims are always obeyed but it's a process of accretion - wisdom has it that if an MP gets ten letters on one subject they know something is afoot and pay attention. i believe it makes a difference.

I wouldn't bother. You can't believe a word that comes out of a politician's mouth.
