Have you ever grown a avocado plant from a seed?

Several. The trick is to let it get a good root system established before transplanting it, and using a larger pot to plant it in.

You need to allow it to get really good root system before planting. Add some bone meal to the soil before planting, does wonders!

Don't forget to plant multible tree's, avocado's won't bear unless there are other tree's nearby.Like (1)

I have tried, but I haven't even been able to get one to sprout.
Do you use toothpicks and a jar with water to get it to sprout, or is there another method.
If I can get one to sprout, maybe I could get it to live after planting...then I could share the information on that part.Like (2)

My experience exactly. I had more luck growing potatoes, although you have to be sure it doesn't get moldy.
