Yep. He quit booze 19 years ago. I think the marriage wouldn't have lasted three more months at the most if he hadn't.

Debra27	Posted Jul 5th, 2009 at 9:32AM I was married to an alcoholic for ten years, we had 3 kids together. He lied about drinking, so that meant that he was lying constantly to be able to leave and go drink. I think had he wanted to quit, I would maybe have stayed with him, but he really did choose alcohol over me and the kids. btw, he died a year ago, choked on a piece of steak while eating, drunk. It is on the death certificate, he was plastered. sad for my kids. Rated: +2Vote for this!

The second one has just quit drinking because it has ruined his liver and made him very sick. I stayed because I believe that it is a disease, and I know myself well enough that I would always feel guilty if I left someone because of a disease. Rated: +2Vote for this!
pukirahe	Posted Jul 1st, 2009 at 6:28AM There is no alcoholic in my large family of four generations. We teach our children about the great evil of drinking alcohol, so they should avoid themselses and be careful in choosing their spouses. However, my advice is not to hate the alcoholics, but we have also the obligation to love them and do our best to help them quitting it. Success usually comes with love. Rated: +1Vote for this!
