I went through counseling. My parents would constantly want me to talk to them, but then they would tell me that my feelings are not justifiable therefore they were not real. I stopped talking to them completely due to their lack of understanding. I talked to the counselor and worked through my problems and learned how to handle my parents. It took me about a year, but that is because they do not just listen, they TEACH you how to go through life without letting problems overtake your life. My counselor was incredibly helpful and I am forever grateful.

Yes, I wanted hypnotherapy to treat my phobia. It was not successful: I'm not suggestible. Therapist decided that a link existed between my phobia (of spiders/bugs) was linked with my trust issues (of people), so he a lot of time on that (along with increased exposure therapy). I didn't want to "fix" trust issues though, so quit after 2 months.

I've had 3 different therapists and I'm only 18! Interestingly I've had the same number of driving instructors...

Seriously though, therapy can work. It depends what your problems are and how willing you are to take a long, honest look at yourself.

Yes. After losing my mother, baby and grandmother. I don't know what you are going through but don't be ashamed or scared to get help. Try it, but getting better doesn't happen overnight. Unless it's a miracle. It takes time and effort on your part.

First no matter what anyone says it takes a truly strong person to admit there is a problem and get the help they need. Second counseling/therapy cannot and will not work if you do not want it to. Meaning if you are not willing to put the work into yourself you will not get anything out of it.
No I am not a counselor. Just someone who has gone thru counseling for several different reasons. As people we are constantly growing learning and changing, both good and bad. Problems arise sometimes we can handle them but sometimes things may be more than we know what to do. So we need help. It's like my car is making this noise, I know it shouldn't and I know I should have it checked but I don't. Then one day I am driving along and my car falls apart. Life is like that too for some people. For some of us if we do not get help with the **** we have been dealt we will just continue to make the same mistakes our parents did. I was abused growing up, raped at 15, married at 19 to a man who verbally/emtionally abused me,controlled me and raped me. Spent the last 11yrs involved with and then married to a man who has/had a drug problem, stole money from the union he was the treasurer for, verbally/emotionally and physically abused me. I am Bi-polar, anxiety with panic attacks and PTSD with flashbacks. I have dealt with my childhood issues in a very intense therapy program. But I still have a long way to go. I view me myself and my life as a work in progress and there is always room for improvement.
