Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of being on this site? The whole idea is to chat with strangers you will never meet and to just be yourself

Not from EP. From another site yes. And I didn't like being recognized.
I used to use my real photos on various websites like EP and one day these three guys approach me at the store while I'm loading groceries into the trunk of my car and one says "I knew it! Your that dude from the (names the site). Man I saw you on the Internet!"
I was all "Yeah? greaaaat. Super...." They just thought it was cool meeting someone who was a member of the message boards at that site.
But as soon as I got home I decided to change my avatar and all my information and to never be honest again about my location, physical appearance, age, or anything. I didn't like being recognized.Like (1)

Seems like a huge over reaction on my part. But I'm a really private person and a loner by nature. It just really freaked me out being recognized, especially since I sometimes get into heated arguments online. To have three huge guys basically to either side and directly behind me was disconcerting. Even after I found out they were just excited to meet me.
