Yes, but I knew what I was in for at the time. I used to volunteer as an escort at a womens' clinic in Texas, which got picketed and protested frequently. The local police were pretty lukewarm about responding to threats, and sometimes even protestors trying to physically prevent clients from entering the building, even when such clients were going in for low-cost Pap smears or contraception. Two of us were escorting a frightened teenage girl into the clinic when I got hit in the head from behind by a rotten watermelon with a dolls' head and limbs stuck into it... it stunk, and it hurt, but it didn't stop me.

A young girl was getting beaten badly and a couple of other adults and I stepped in and they pulled the attacker off the girl and I helped her up off the ground and I had my hands on her shoulders asking her if she was okay when the girls super ignorant mother came and all of a sudden she's jumping at me telling me to get my hands off her daughter and I got no business touching her and I'm stunned for a half a second and then this mother is actually trying to fight me!!! I couldn't believe it. She didn't say anything to the other two adults that had helped her daughter out but she focused on me. She wasn't so stupid as to swing on me though and I did call the police. From that moment on I made a vow to NEVER, EVER help another child out. I've seen plenty of fights since this happened and I stood by and watched just like every body else after I'd called the cops. Parents who are like that woman is cause their kids more harm than good.
