Have you ever went some where a seen someone from your past?

'Small World' kind of thing happened to me. I dated a girl for about 10 months and we broke up only because she got a job as a 'flight attendant' for a major airline that required a move to another state. It wasn't really a 'surprise' as she had started the application/interviewing/testing process just before we started dating and was a very amicable 'parting'. Then almost 5 years later I moved to NJ and ran into her in NYC just coming out of a building after a meeting. The nicest part was it wasn't awkward at all as we both hugged and 'kiss on the cheek' simultaneously and then 'it's great seeing you again maybe we'll run into each other again sometime' with no anticipation or attempt to renew any kind of relationship.

A few years back I returned to a community where we lived when I was a child, it had been over forty years, and I went up to a live oak tree we kids used to meet at for talk and planning or just doing nothing.

The tree had stayed the same, it was already hundreds of years old and hadn't changed a bit in the mere forty I had been away. It was great fun to visit that old oak; I hugged it and cried and apologized for not ever saying goodbye back when we moved away.

I loved that tree, still love the image of it standing there in the Mississippi sun.

Yes, it happens to me all the time, and I even leave 1000 miles away from where I grew up.

The best thing is to not avoid the person - just say hello, or nod your head. The cold shoulder thing is immature, but if they give you that response, it's on them, not you. Just do your thing and don't let anyone chase you into another aisle.

Last Christmas (2007) I ran into a woman I used to work with. I hadn't seen her since 1990. The crazy thing is, I recognized her right away and remembered her name. But I can't remember names of people I met just last week now!!

Not a person but a building from my past.
