Have you ever wondered what that crunch was, when you were eating a fig newton?

The FDA allows for up to 13 insect heads, per 100 grams. Wasps pollinate the flowers that are inside the fruit....so, wasps do get collected with the figs, and it would be impossible to get every single wasp out.....so, most of the time you are crunching into the figs, but there could be a wasp or two in there....

And I really loved them. I just can't get past the thought of eating an insect.

Oh wonderful, until now I just assume they didn't get one of the stems out of the figs. I haven't eaten fig newtons in a long time and prefer strawberry newtons but now I have less reason to buy them. YUCK!

If you have ever eaten plain figs you would get that same crunch since their are seeds in adriatic figs... I would be less worried about Fig Newtons crunch from seeds than I would be by what is openly in soda...

I'm pretty sure it's the seeds. And eating insects is harmless. Actually, if you're starving in the wild, they're supposed to be your number one food income. They're made up of fats which is invaluable to your body. So munch away. :)

The crunch is the SEEDS of the fig fruit....

MISS BEBE--A fig newton is a cookie-like snack of the fig fruit with moist cake wrapped around it. It's good.

EWWWWWWWWWWW! Ruined my experience for life, now. I thought it was just fig seeds and grit.

There is actually an amazing amount of scary substances allowed into the foods we eat. Which is why I primarily avoid highly processed foods but DAY-HAM! No more "chewy-gooey insides, golden-flakey tender-cakey outsides" for me!!!

It's the seeds, It's the seeds, It's the seeds. If I say it enough maybe I'll convince myself I'm not eating a wasp. Wonder if it also applies to the fruit newtons? They are better anyway, plus easier to see a bug head in them, I think. lol
