Normally I will go downstairs and sleep on the couch. Works about 95% of the time.
I too, suffer from mild insomnia. It's not easy, falling asleep, or staying asleep. I usually take 1000 mg of ibuprofen to help with this.
I just try and sleep for ten minutes and if I'm not asleep I get up and do something relaxing for about ten/fifteen minutes and then try again.....

You get up of course and stop lying there. Go back when you feel ready. Disturbed sleep, of course, is a big symptom of depression.
