have a mother daughter night out, just the two of you, maybe go downtown on bus and spend the whole day there sight seeing, and during the process, don't forget to tell your daughter how much you love her and always will and you dont always have the time to show it because your busy, but that doesn't mean you don't love her, tell her that you'll always be there for her, let her do whatever she wants that day and instead of being her mother that day, be her friend. hope this helps and good luck.

The VERY BEST thing you can give your child is LOVE. Things are not important and will break, wearout or be discarded. Show your child the importance of LOVE,not the lust that some pass off as LOVE

I'm a sentimental guy. Some of the things I value most are things passed down to me by my parents. So chose a piece of your jewelry or something of yours that you really value....something you'd like to pass down to her. Enclose a note telling her what it means to you and why you'd like here to have it. Then wrap it nicely and give it to her.

Put a bunch of random small things in a box. Doesn't take much money at all, and it's one of my favorite things to get.

You really dont have to put a prize on it, love is free and prize-less you can always buy her something at a later stage all that matters on her special day is knowing you are there for her and showering her with hugs and making it rain with lot and lots of love, surely you can still manage to have a quality special day with her... Bonding session btwn a mother and a daughter, home cooked meal she will appreciate it

Throw her a party or make her something really cool. My best friend made me a memory box for my 16th birthday and it was my favourite gift.

Give as much as you can within your means. I'm sure she will appreciate it if she is aware of your financial situation (young people aren't usually heartless :))

Picnic, Hiking, swimming, walk & talk in the park? Have you ever checked on Groupons? I use those ALL the time and save a bundle? There's also Living Social Deals.

thnx for the tips her bday was actually a few months ago but my son's is just around the corner. I ended up deciding to give her a necklace that she has borrowed occasionally (it's sterling silver with a skeleton key) and cooking her and her boyfriend a nice steak dinner.

What a great present! I've learned if we really put our minds on something we can always come up with an answer! I'm so sorry, I didn't even look at the date of your post, how stupid of me! Thanks for replying back, if I had caught that and never heard from you I would have assumed you thought me an idiot!

    Wow sorry to hear that.
It's a shame that you did not know she was going to be 18 soon or you could have been saving up a little at a time for it.

Give her a heart felt apology and an IOU.

You should make her understand the fact that she is also an owner of the whole world!

I gave my Step daughter an awesome 17th birthday, because I am afraid we will be broke next year, I hope it doesn't backfire. Whatever you do I hope she sees your love behind it.

i have given her many nice presents throughout the years (when I was working). i guess there's some consolation in knowing that. last year she got a basket full of munchies and a small bottle of perfume (cuz that's all I could afford) and we had a picnic at my uncle's place with a few family members. that turned out well (and was relatively inexpensive).
