    Maybe that's true, but often, when I help someone else, the solution for my own problems becomes clearer.

    I think in helping others we help ourselves as well. Some of us have life experience that make us more compassionate and understanding when it comes to helping others. I don't see it as an escape. I don't know about priesthood though.

    Not always It can help you help yourself and see a way to get through your own problems. Plus the ones you help will sometimes return the favor.
