A great idea, the vegetables would be worthless but hopefully loads of prisoners would get killed by trafic and fumes.

The cost associated with monitoring the prisoners away from the prison would far outweigh any cost benefit. How about we rework our penal system so we don't have a larger portion of our population incarcerated than any other county. Right over 700 people are incarcerated per 100,000 of population. The money saved could be used for education and job training.

Public planting of food is a good idea. It should be available to whoever needs it. Ok some places may not grow the most healthy foods but it is better than going hungry.
