i have not been a member long. However that said i have notied mostly everyone here is very polite. i have also noticed that in sharing experiences those contributing make a great effort to be precise with grammar and spelling, and to try and provide stories or questions that make you think. I feel that this site has much ore potential to alwoa person to better their writing capabilities. This is not Facebook (which i can not stand and do not use). Instead this site reminds me of what facebook should have been like, if it's purpose was not to be a total waste of time! I would say the answer to your question is, follow the rules and just try not to flame or argue with others, though i have not seen a lot of that occur here. you may find some really funny or interesting stories and questions here written by regular people very inspiring!

As far as I can tell, main characteristics are politeness length. This is not youtube comments (my favorite example of people being incredibly rude to each other over nanoscopic disagreements). However, I've been here about as long as you have, so...

Doesn't really seem to be. Most questions are semi intelligent. A lot of answers are from mo-rons though, but their isn't any way of filtering them out. You just have to consider the source when you read a stupid comment, and over-look it.

say what you feel comfortable with saying, talk to those who interest you, join groups that you like and ask as many questions as you like - just don't be too rude to anyone before you know them and know they like it! Most of us just experiment a little and chat to those who intrigue us!

Yes. Be totally serious about everything you say. Never attempt any kind of humor.

There is one important thing. and this is from watching another user's behavior and getting annoyed with it: Don't repeatedly ask questions regarding nerds, thighs and strangulation.
