Hi, I was diagnosed just recently. Do you guys think it might be possible for someone not to go under surgery?

You see, I have a weak heart and I'm not sure if I can survive... Does anyone have sort of the same story?
I forgot to mention that I was diagnosed with Myxoma on the left atrium.

Is This A Good Question? (1)

What does your doctor say about your chances with surgery versus without surgery? What will your quality of life likely be if you don't have the surgery? The question I usually ask the doctor with very serious issues is what they would choose for their most loved one if they were faced with the same decision.

Thats just the thing. They havent given me an alternative solution yet and here I am scared to death about what might happen if I do or don't get the surgery

They may not know an alternative solution. The question I pose is what is the likely outcome WITH surgery versus what is the likely outcome withOUT the surgery. Sometimes those are the only options one has and you bite the bullet and do the one you believe has the greatest probability of giving you the better outcome. I hope you are able to connect with some others who have faced this and come through well.

That's up to you. You have to weigh the pros and cons..a decision of the sort can be very hard; you know that. So take all the time you can and really make up your mind on it. You're the only one who can decide whether or not it's worth the risk.

My heart's been known not to pump blood well so an open heart surgery might not help my case

Find a good heart doc and take his recommendation. Seek a 2nd opinion if needed. Sometimes there are different types of surgery they could do, and they aren't always open.
