They are laying people off for unrelated reasons and saying it is due to the Affordable Care Act to try and make a political point.

It's going to get worse before it gets better. I'm seeing it happening locally.

actually the date is 2014. the insurance industry is already on board with this. look, america is way behind in providing a health ins. program for its citizens. even mexico offers a program for not only their citizens but also american ex-pats. at a whopping less than $1.00 a day. we ought to be ashamed. google it. here's one for a starter:

Much of the "Affordable Care Act" has started and more parts will be instituted in 2013 and 2014 so your assumption is incorrect (final phases go into effect as late as2016 of over a 2000 page bill). Business isn't as right wing or left wing as you might think it is always, always, always, profit centered. It is not a great right wing conspiracy to make Obama look bad, that companies are laying off and making plans to lay off workers now, it's common sense, economic considerations, and costs versus profits that are producing lay offs. If you disagree with what companies are doing (including shipping jobs overseas) then disagree for the correct reasons, not for high-sounding rhetoric or political economic propaganda ones.

Obama care went into effect on 3/23/10, it has been in effect. The major provision (most costly) for employers goes into effect on 1/1/14, that is when employers will get dinged for not offering affordable care to full-time workers. In the meantime, employers need to either layoff or make sure they cut people to below 30 hours a week so those people won't count as full-time. There is a penalty they will pay for each full-time employee.

It is partly in effect , taxes start in 2012 and full implementation is 2018. And the cost to employ will increase for 2012
