How badly does getting a tattoo actually hurt?

I was planning on getting an ankle tattoo after I get my degree as a sort of gift to myself for all my hard work.. just wondering how painful the experience really is.

Well I want a tattoo that symbolizes the accomplishment of graduating from college; figure if I want a tattoo stuck on my body for the rest of my life it'd better symbolize something I'm proud of. Worth the wait!

It actually doesn't hurt me at all. But I have a high threshold for pain.

It really doesn't except for boney areas and less fleshy areas.

I've heard it's like repetitively stabbing a sunburn.

If u can handle a paper cut or a cat scratch, you can handle a tattoo.

never had one but I've heard a few times that feels like getting rug burn - that kind of high-friction rubbing and heat. And of course, it hurts more if the needle is going over a bony area.
